What will my child be doing?

Sessions begin with a 5-10 minute warm-up to get the children moving and recapping on gross motor skills and basic ball handling.

The sessions continue with skill builders for 15 minutes, providing everything children need to play, particularly focusing on bowling, which can be the make-or-break element of any game of cricket!

The session finishes with a game of countdown cricket that will take 30-45 minutes and give everyone a chance to participate in all elements of the game – batting, bowling and fielding.

About Youth Cricket

Youth cricket at Charlbury CC has been running for a considerable time and has become and integral part of the club.  Whether your child is just starting out on their cricket journey or they have aspirations of playing for their country they will be able to learn and grow in the nurturing environment at Charlbury.

We are focused on the development of all players, regardless of gender, age or ability.  We cater from children at young as 5 years old, through our All Stars programme and have representative teams at Under 9, 11, 13 & 15 that compete in a number of matches throughout the playing season.  Many of our junior players have progressed to play in both the Men’s and Women’s senior sides.

The club will also nominate players for the Oxfordshire Cricket assessment process if they have displayed the required standard to progress to the next level.  We have had quite a few players that have represented Oxfordshire either currently or in the past.  If you would like more information about this process, please speak to our Club Safeguarding Officer.

In addition to the organised coaching sessions and matches we have a number of social events throughout the year, including the end of season presentation event and an annual firework display.

Our coaches are predominately ECB qualified and hold an up to date Enhanced DBS check.  Charlbury is proud to have achieved ECB Clubmark accreditation.

ECB Clubmark is an accreditation scheme for cricket clubs shows that a club is sustainable, well run and provides the right environment for its members. Clubmark accreditation also means your club is recognised as a safe, rewarding and fulfilling place for participants of all ages, as well as assuring parents and carers that they are choosing the right option for their young people.

Parents are encouraged to become actively involved in the club, either helping with teams, events and fundraising, please let us know if you would like to help out.

Some of our parents go on to become coaches themselves!  If this is something you are interested in, please do have a chat and we can give you more information and point you in the right direction for courses and qualifications.

TRAINING

During the summer months training will take place at the club ground, we are lucky to be able to offer some indoor Winter training at the Charlbury Community Centre for selected age groups.  More information can be found on the relevant training page.

EQUIPMENT

Our very youngest players will need very little equipment, in fact the All Stars is a great way to start, as the initial signing up fee includes a bat and ball, you will even get a set of stumps in your second year of All Stars.    As your child gets older, buying kit can become quite expensive but it is a great option for birthday and Christmas presents!  There is some equipment at the club to borrow and we aim to have a kit trade-in event at the start of each playing season.
