Under 9s Girls team in action

On Sunday 22nd May our Under 9 girls team played in their very first softball tournament.  The festival was organised by Oxfordshire Cricket and hosted by Warborough & Shillingford CC.

The first game was against Tiddington CC and was the first game our Dynamos had ever played, they did really well but fell short of the win.  We then played on of the Warborough teams.  This game the girls wanted to improve on their bowling and fielding, which they did and as a result they came closer to a win. The final game was against the other Warborough team, this time the girls wanted to improve their batting, specifically running between the wickets.  Again the improvement was noticeable during this game and throughout the day.

The girls may not have come away with a win but to have played their first ever matches and, to be able to say they were the first girls to play as a Girls Under 9s team at Charlbury is a very special achievement.  It was great to see a glimpse of what the future of Women’s cricket will be like!

As a special memento of the occasion we had some customised mini bats made for the players.

Special Thanks to Chloe for coaching the girls on the day!

Women Win HCWCL Division 1 Title

Charlbury took on Stony Stratford in the culmination of the league season in the Division 1 final, away at Stony Stratford CC. Charlbury had reached the final after a very close semi-final against Finchampstead CC last weekend, winning by just 17 runs.

On Sunday, Charlbury lost the toss and were put into bat, they scored 199 from their 35 overs, with a fourth wicket partnership of 100 from Lottie Oxton (66) and Chloe Westbury (37) steadying the ship after the first three wickets fell for 50 runs.

Charlbury took to the field and claimed the first wicket inside the third over, with the other opener being dismissed at the start of the 7th, Jessica Warren claiming both wickets. Stony’s captain hung around and scored 66 from 68 balls but Stony couldn’t reach the target. Six of the Charlbury players picked up wickets in the 54 run victory, with the pick of the bowlers being Abi Norgrove 2-8-0-5 and Jessica Warren 3-34-2-7.  The Scorecard can be seen HERE

Charlbury were presented with the trophy by Laura Crofts, Secretary of the HCWCL. This was a great way to end a very successful season, having won the Super 8s performance group earlier in the year!
